Reading with Molly Cooney, Rachel Moritz, Mary Stein, and Mimi Iimuro Van Ausdall

Join us on Friday, October 27th at 7:00pm for a Queer Parent Reading featuring Molly Cooney, Rachel Moritz, Mary Stein, and Mimi Iimuro Van Ausdall.
This reading is intended to create a space for the prose and poetry of queer/LGBT parents, co-parents and aspiring parents. Mary Stein is a fiscal year 2017 recipient of an Artist Initiative grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. The event is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Art Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation by the Minnesota State Legislature; and by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. 
 
Molly Cooney is a queer writer, mother, and teacher who spends as much time as possible outdoors. Her work can be found in the summer 2017 issue of The Georgia Review, as well as in The Gettysburg Review and North Dakota Quarterly, and she is a winner of The Loft Literary Center Mentor Series Award 2014-15. Molly recently finished a manuscript about leading an Arctic canoeing expedition and is currently writing about life with her trans partner. She lives in Minneapolis, but wishes the weather and food were more like Tucson.

Rachel Moritz is the author of Borrowed Wave, a finalist for the 2015 Minnesota Book Award in Poetry, and five poetry chapbooks. Her second collection, Sweet Velocity, won the 2015 Besmilr Brigham Women Writer’s Award from Lost Roads Press. Her work has been published in American Letters and Commentary, Colorado Review, Denver Quarterly, Iowa Review, 26, Tinderbox Poetry Journal, and Volt. Among her awards are fellowships from the Minnesota State Arts Board and the Jerome Foundation as well as a residency at the Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts.

 
Mary Stein is a fiction writer and instructor for the Minnesota Prison Writing Workshop. Her work can be found in Water~Stone Review, The Brooklyn Rail, Tin House Flash Fridays, and other journals. She's received fellowships from the Jerome Foundation, Minnesota States Arts Board, and received a Loft Mentor Series award. She lives in south Minneapolis and lives with her partner and their dog.
 
Mimi Iimuro Van Ausdall, Ph.D., is a Minneapolis-based writer and teacher. Her scholarly work appears in The Journal of Lesbian StudiesFeminist FormationsSinister Wisdom, and The Gay and Lesbian Review. She has been the recipient of the National Women’s Studies Association Graduate Scholarship in Lesbian Studies and of the Consortium of Institutional Cooperation (CIC) Fellowship at Purdue University. However, she describes herself as a “recovering academic” and is now beginning her creative writing career.
